PROSILVA Europe is a federation of professional foresters across 24 European countries & New England advocating Close to Nature as an alternative to clear felling, short-term tree plantations. PROSILVA was founded in Slovenia in 1989 and celebrated its 20th anniversary in Slovenia in 2009.

I was excited to here there were other foresters who were taking a hard look at the way we are managing out forest around the world. Here, the historical practices of diameter limit cuts, single species removal and high-grade harvesting have decimated most of our natural hardwood forests here in Michigan. Diameter limit cuts have ruined stand sturcture, removals by species have destroyed diversity within our forest communities, and high-grading has removed superior trees, leaving our…
